Before paying for a Kazakhstan electronic visa, check citizenship and category, the registered invitation, passport details and the entry and exit route. Electronic format does not mean the visa is available to every applicant, covers the whole family or is suitable for crossing a land border.
This guide is for a foreign national considering a single-entry electronic visa through the Visa and Migration Portal (VMP). It helps check whether this route fits before applying. Visa-free entry, consular visas, work permits, temporary residence and permanent residence are separate matters; an e-visa does not automatically replace them.
The rules were checked on 12 September 2026. The basis is Kazakhstan’s current Foreign and Interior Ministry visa rules. The checks and example below are KLC recommendations, not a promise of visa issuance or border admission.
1. Check citizenship and the purpose of travel
Paragraph 25 links single-entry e-visa issuance to the country list in Appendix 11. Find the country of citizenship and check the appropriate category: residence alone does not replace this check. Then match the actual purpose of travel to the category in Appendix 1.
The current wording contains a specific restriction for Pakistani citizens: they are issued single-entry electronic business visas in category B3. Availability of a tourist e-visa for another country must not be assumed to apply to such an applicant. Adilet indicates revised wording for this provision from 1 January 2027; check it again before travel after that date.
Do not choose a tourist category merely because it seems simpler if the actual purpose is different. If electronic format does not fit the citizenship or purpose, clarify the applicable procedure with a Kazakhstan consulate before paying or buying non-refundable tickets.

2. Obtain the registered invitation details
Paragraph 25 provides for an e-visa based on an electronic invitation. Under paragraph 19, the number and date of an invitation registered with the Interior Ministry are entered for VMP processing; the inviting party supplies them. A hotel booking or ordinary invitation letter alone does not establish that such a registered invitation exists.
Before starting, agree the category, trip details and passport information with the inviting party. The visa is generated from the invitation information. Before issuance, the applicant checks and confirms that these details match the passport.
Do not confuse invitation exemptions in other visa procedures with electronic processing rules: for the route considered here, follow paragraph 25.

3. Check the passport before paying

Paragraph 21 requires, among other things, at least two blank visa pages and passport validity extending at least three months beyond the requested visa’s expiry; the exceptions in these subparagraphs concern visas for departure from Kazakhstan. The passport must also have no validity-extension endorsements. Check the entire paragraph, not just these three conditions.
If the passport is replaced, an e-visa must be obtained again. If a child travels with the family, do not treat the parent’s visa as shared: paragraph 25 expressly excludes accompanying persons from its coverage. The child’s procedure and the legal representative’s actions must be checked separately; paragraph 20 provides for a minor’s visa documents to be submitted by their legal representatives.

4. Check both border crossings
Under paragraph 25, entry and exit using a valid e-visa are permitted only through checkpoints at Kazakhstan’s international airports. Check not only arrival but also the onward or return route. Arriving by air does not make a land departure permissible under this rule.
Example: a traveller plans to fly into Kazakhstan and then take a train to a neighbouring country. Before paying for an e-visa, they need to revise the itinerary or clarify another suitable visa procedure. An air ticket for the first leg does not resolve the second border crossing.
Separately check the validity period, permitted stay and number of entries of the particular visa. A single-entry visa does not authorise re-entry after departure merely because its expiry date has not passed. Do not infer the permitted stay from one general number in an advertising leaflet: conditions depend on the category and issued visa.

5. Separate issuance time from preparation
Paragraph 25 sets the e-visa issuance period at one working day. This does not mean the entire process from having no invitation to being ready to travel takes one day. Plan invitation preparation, corrections and document preparation separately.
The rules provide for payment of the consular fee through the e-government payment gateway; the issued visa is delivered to the personal account. Check the amount and applicability of exemptions for your category before paying. No universal price is stated here: invitation, translation or assistance expenses cannot automatically be treated as part of the consular fee.
After receipt, check the name, passport, category and dates again. Do not travel with a known mismatch expecting to correct it at the border. First clarify the correction procedure with the inviting party and competent authority.
